Todhunter was a prolific author of treatises on a variety of mathematical topics. The title of this book is apt, it does have comprehensive coverage of the mathematical principles and is a great resource for worked examples. The Mathematics is obviously that of the 1800's and looks amazingly applied in contrast to modern Mathematical texts. A surprising problem is the use of a single differential operator symbol for full, partial and virtual derivatives as opposed to the separate symbols that we have come to rely upon in modern texts.Unfortunately, the copy quality is poor and there are places on almost every page where some of the equations are obscured, often making for serious problems trying to figure out the symbols. Consequently, the rating is an average of 1 start for print quality and 5 stars for content.
